Basketball

The United Red Storm boys basketball team got their first victory of the season in a big way last night. The Storm broke open a 35-24 halftime lead with a 37 point second half to get a 72-47 win over Southeastern on the road in augusta. United’s Declan Flynn led United with 18 points. Brannock McVey had 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Adam Johnson had 14 points. The Red Storm are now (1-4) and begin Lincoln Trail Conference play tonight with a trip to ROWVA/Williamsfield.

In IHSA girls basketball last night, the Galesburg Silver Streaks won a thrilling Western Big Six Conference road game at United Township in East Moline. It looked like the Streaks were going to win the game in regulation until the Panthers hit a shot at the buzzer to send the game to an extra period. A Kelsi Legge basket in the paint with 28 seconds left proved to be the winning points for Galesburg, who moved over the .500 mark for the season at (4-3). They are now (1-1) in the Big Six. Andrea Sampson canned four, 3-pointers for 16 points to lead Galesburg. Riley Jenkins chipped in with 12 points as well for the Streaks.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls remained unbeaten on the season at (8-0) with a 52-40 Prairieland Conference cross-division victory at South Fulton. Cassie Grady led a balanced scoring Knoxville squad with 14 points. Lauren Kavanaugh had 12 and Hannah Jones scored 10 for the Blue Bullets.

The Galva Wildcat girls beat Galesburg Christian 48-20 to get their first win of 2018. Darrah Schilling scored 16 points to lead Galva and Josie Williams added 10.

It was BPC losing to Brimfield 74-35. Madison Allen led BPC with 10 points. The Spartans are (4-3) and Brimfield is now (6-1).

Mendon Unity defeated West Central 61-28. Farmington beat Ridgewood 53-37 and it was Camp Point Central/Southeastern all over Macomb 63-36.

Bowling

Galesburg beat West Central 2642-2120 at Northgate Lanes in Galesburg yesterday. Casey Folger led Galesburg with a three-game series 603 and single games 206 and 203. The Heat were led by Nikki Bales with a 505 series and a 198 single game.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans were swept by Churchill in Roseville. The Blue Streak 7th grade beat the Titans 35-24. Leading Titan scorers were Nico Avendano and Darrion Smith with 6 points each. Jace Keith led Churchill with 14 points. The Titan 8th grade fell to Churchill 45-25. Leading Monmouth-Roseville in scoring was Max Cole with 6 and Silas Braun with 4 points. Roman Willson scored 14 points and Easton Steck added 10 for the Blue Streaks.
