Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27th, 2019:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, JC Sells. JC has been a threat to post a double-double in each one of his team’s games all season long. He currently leads the team in scoring and rebounding. He put up 18 points and had double digit rebounds in a loss to Byron at the Galesburg Shootout.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman boys basketball player, Cormaic Flynn. In one of his first extended minutes at the varsity basketball level, Cormaic broke out for 15 points in Lincoln Trail Conference tournament win over West Central. He also showed his ability to handle pressure, nailing a pair of big free throws down the stretch.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys basketball player, Jordon Roller. Jordon totaled 13 points in a loss to United in a recent Lincoln Trail Conference tournament contest. He has been steady at both ends of the court this season, both scoring on the offensive end and rebounding on the defensive end. He is one of the team leaders in both categories for the Heat.
The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Payton Florine. Payton scored 14 points in a Prairieland Conference North Division victory over Elmwood. She’s one of the team leaders in three different categories for the Lady Tornadoes, posting nearly 10 points and five rebounds a game. In addition, Payton is dishing out two assists a contest.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week, presented by Toyota, is senior girls bowler, Hannah Leon. Hannah put on a great performance at her final Galesburg Invitational at Northgate Lanes in Galesburg. She rolled a 6-game series of 1163, which was tops among individuals for the day. That total included a high-game of 213 and 3-game series of 587. Both of those scores were among the best of the tournament as well.
