Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3rd, 2019:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore wrestlers Ashton Anderon and Drayson Griffin and junior wrestler Stella Narkiewicz. All three qualified themselves for the Class 1A PORTA Sectional tournament by placing 3rd in their weight class at the Knoxville Regional. Stella and Drayson each recorded two pins in the regional tournament.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Carly Thompson. Carly ended a 4-year varsity career with 17 points in her final regular season home game at the Fieldhouse. She added 21 points in a regional loss to Mendon Unity to end her career as one of the leading scorers in Red Storm girls basketball history.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Nate Bigger. Nate scored nine points in a Lincoln Trail Conference Heat win over Stark County. After missing the majority of the first half of the season with a knee injury, Nate has returned to provide head coach Mike Kelley another scoring threat from the perimeter and rebounder in the paint.
The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girls bowler, Alexis Wilson. Alexis claimed a Taylorville Regional individual championship with a 6-game score of 1180. She rolled a total of 1111 at the recently completed Galesburg Invite for 2nd place overall.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week, presented by Toyota is, senior Drew Giles and freshman Zeke Kent from the boys swimming and diving team. Both captured Western Big Six Conference titles at the conference championship meet. Giles won the 100 yard breaststroke, while Kent was first in the 1 meter diving competition. Giles also placed runnerup in three other events as well.
