Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 7th, 2019:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week. This week the spotlight shines on junior track and field athlete, Jakob Thomas. Jakob won the shot put event at the highly competitive Lee Calhoun Invitational in Macomb. His toss of 47′ 7.5″ was good enough to beat all throwers. He also placed 2nd in the discus event with a throw of 135′ 9″.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior long distance runner, Anne Gregory. Anne picked up a couple of top-3 finishes at the Dale Collis Invitational in Galva. She ran the grueling double of the 1600 and 3200 meter races. Anne ran a time of 12:31.43 to win the 3200 meter. This was just after placing 3rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:49.44.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week freshman softball player, MacKenzy Ludington. In three Heat wins last week, MacKenzy was a terror at the plate. She batted 6-for-12 and scored five runs. MacKenzy also showed some power, blasting two home runs against Annawan/Wethersfield. She totaled six rbis for the week as well.
The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore baseball player, T.J. Meyers. T.J. had a great week in four games last week. He was a blistering 6-for-9 at the plate. T.J. scored five and also drove in five runs. Maybe the most amazing stat of the week, he stole eight bases.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Andrea Sampson. In a pair of wins last week, Andrea went 4-for-7 at the plate. Among those four hits was a pair of home runs against Knoxville. She scored five runs and knocked in six runs. Andrea already holds several Galesburg softball program records and signed her letter of intent to continue playing softball at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston in the fall.
