Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 5th, 2019:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Opal Scott. Opal had a big hand in her team’s win over Abingdon-Avon. She was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, two stolen bases and three rbis. She also scored a pair of runs as well. Opal recently announced she will be a part of the cheerleading squad at McKendree University.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys track and field athlete, Joey Jones. Joey claimed the Lincoln Trail Conference shot put championship at the meet held in Aledo. His season-best toss of 42′ 2″ was almost a full foot farther than the runnerup. Joey was also the winner of the Dale Collis Invitational in Galva earlier in this season.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week. is junior softball player, Carley Lafary. Carley’s bat was as hot as anyone in the area last week. In five games for the Heat, including three wins, she was 8-for-15, with two doubles and a home run. The most amazing stat for the week was Carley totaled ten runs drive in.

The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Emma Ginther. Emma left no doubt who the best sprinter and jumper is in the Prairieland Conference. In the championship meet in Lewistown, she placed first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Emma also claimed the 1st place medals in the long and triple jump events.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Conner Aten. Conner earned another win on the mound for the Streaks in the first game of a Western Big Six Conference championship-clinching win. He went 5.1 innings, giving up just 3 hits and one earned run, while striking out six batters. Conner’s week at the plate wasn’t too shabby either as he went 4-for-10 with a double and five rbis in three Silver Streak victories.

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank and Galesburg Toyota!!
