Rob Janssen, Vice President of Illinois FFA, was in attendance at the 25th Annual WRAM Farmer’s Breakfast this past Friday. Janssen, a recent graduate of Abingdon-Avon High School, gave a speech on his recent promotion in June to Vice President. He discussed some of the various opportunities he’s already gotten to take part in, and how he plans on embracing the role moving forward.
“We had the amazing opportunity to head out to Washington D.C. sponsored by the Illinois Corn Growers Association. We went out to the National Corn Congress, and were able to lobby on the hill for issues in agriculture including waters of the United States, and also, the locks and dam system needing updated in the Mississippi River,” Janssen said.
Janssen, along with his four other state officers, will visit each Illinois FFA chapter in the state this year. The 19-year old also attended the Illinois State Fair, where he had to sleep in a barn for 13 days straight. Near the end of his speech at the breakfast, Janssen wanted to remind farmers of one thing ahead of harvest.
“We’re all in a hurry to get things done, but take those little moments, slow down, and enjoy the little things because we never know when our last moment’s going to be,” he said.
