The expectations from season to season never change for Rick Quinn and his A-Town Tornadoes. The goal each year is to reach the postseason, or earn a chance at a “second season.” After an 0-9 campaign last season, Quinn believes his upperclassmen have extra motivation heading into 2017.
“We have 10 seniors. All of them have played a lot of football. A lot of them were starting as sophomores. The last few years, we’ve struggled a little bit,” Quinn said. “They want to go out and have a little success this year, so they’ve stepped up their leadership efforts, and they’re expecting to have a better season this year.”
Quinn pointed out two senior linemen, Julien Nicholson and Gage Coursey, who have exemplified what he wants his team to be about in 2017. The two seniors have a “different perspective” according to their coach, having been in the weight room constantly since the end of last season.
“We’re going to play hard for 48 minutes. That’s our identity. I don’t care what the score is. We don’t care what the scoreboard says. You quit playing when the horn goes off. We’re going to represent these communities, and we are going to play as hard as humanly possible. We are going to play for the name on the front of the jersey and not the name on the back of the jersey,” Quinn said.
A-Town will open their regular season on Friday, Aug. 25th, at home against Mid-County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
