Dougherty Looking for Historic Galesburg Season

Share

After winning their first-ever playoff game in 2016, the Silver Streaks of Galesburg look to, not only return to the playoffs in 2017, but possibly make a deep run in the postseason.

Head football coach Tim Dougherty knows that in order to achieve continued success, his team must leave last year in the rearview mirror.

“Whatever was done last year is in the books. It’s just a matter of burying hatchets. They (Galesburg) have never gotten to back-to-back playoffs. That’s a team goal that the kids have set for themselves … These kids have some lofty goals, and I think for the most part, they’re attainable,” Dougherty said.

Galesburg graduated 19 seniors from last year’s team, but will boast a team with 20 seniors in 2017. Dougherty believes that although last year was a memorable season, this year’s group of Silver Streaks will want to create their own lasting memories on the gridiron.

“These kids are expecting victory through their diligence of work. They want to remember and retain last year, but they want to leave their legacy and make a mark,” he said.

Galesburg will open the regular season at home against Dunlap on Friday, Aug. 25th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
