MACOMB, Ill. – Head track and field coach Mike Stevenson announced the signing of Alexis Danner, Amelia Peterson, Allie Scott, Alyssa Staudt, Hailey Tranchitella and Claire Young to the women’s track program for the 2017-18 season.

Scott is a two-time state qualifier in the long jump and triple jump throughout her four-year career at Knoxville High School (Knoxville, Ill.). As a freshman and sophomore, she was an Illinois State qualifier in both the indoor and outdoor season for the long jump with distances of 16’2.75.” During her junior and senior seasons, she competed in the triple jump, with a fourth place finish at her outdoor state meet and setting a school record with a jump of 36’9″. Scott was also part of her school’s record-setting 4×200 relay team.

“Allie is a local product from Knoxville and has shown a huge amount of potential,” said Stevenson. “She was All-State in both indoor [sixth] and outdoor [fourth] in the triple jump in her senior year. She will challenge for points in the triple jump at the conference level right away.”

Danner joins the Leathernecks as a four-year letterwinner in track and field from Dowling Catholic in Des Moines, Iowa. She earned All-District and All-Conference honors three times, and made state appearances in the 400-meter hurdles (three times), shuttle hurdle relay, 4×200-meters and 4×400 meters. She was also the Most Valuable Performer for her high school as a sophomore. She also participated in the Drake Relays during her freshman and sophomore years. The incoming freshman was also a two-time state diving championship qualifier and was a two-time letterwinner on her high school basketball team also, including a state tournament appearance her senior year.

“Alexis brings a wealth of high school experience to the team, competing in the prestigious Drake Relays and being a multiple time state qualifier,” said Stevenson. “She is a great student and hard-working kid who knows what it takes to get the job done at our level.”

Peterson comes to the Purple and Gold as a long jump and triple jumper, most recently as a member of the Bahamas CARIFTA Team (U18), where she finished sixth in the triple jump. From Queen’s College in Nassau, Bahamas, Peterson was the Junior Nationals U-18 Triple Jump Champion, and runner-up in the long jump. She is also a Bahamas High School Nationals U-18 Girls Triple Jump Champion and runner-up in the long jump as well. She also earned the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS) Student Leader Award, as well as the Beverly A. Brice Memorial Award (most well-rounded female student-athlete) at her school.

“Amelia comes in with some significant performances, primarily in the triple jump where she has gone almost 40 feet,” said Stevenson. “She sprints well and will add depth to many areas. One thing that we are particularly pleased with is that she was the number one student in her class and is still very young, as she won’t even turn 18 until the spring.”

Staudt (Rockford High School/Marble Rock, Iowa) joins Western as a high jumper where she was the 2017 Iowa High School Class 1A State Champion. She has a personal record of 5-feet-6 inches and also qualified for state all four years in high jump (four times) and the 400-meter hurdles. She has medaled three times and is a two-time Drake Relay qualifier.

“Alyssa brings a state title to the team from high school, finishing as a state champ in the high jump in Iowa,” said Stevenson. “With a personal best of 5’6″, she is also an experience hurdler, but will focus on jumps during her freshman season.”

Tranchitella is a four-time Illinois High School Association State qualifier and State medalist at Washington High School. She joins the Purple and Gold as a state qualifier in the 400, 800 (three times), 4×800 (four times) and 4×400 (twice) meter relays. She earned state titles in the 4×800 meter relay in 2014 and 2016, and a state runner up in 2017. Her personal best in the open 800-meter relay is 2:19.14.

“Hailey come to the Leathernecks from Washington, Ill., where we have a rich history with 800-meter specialists [Alyssa Johnson and Jaclyn Finney],” said Stevenson. “She is a two-time state champion in the 4×800 and qualified for state in all four years in both the relay and individual events. She will help the cross country team as well.”

Young also comes from Bolingbrook High School where she holds the school records for the high jump [5 feet-8 inches] and qualified for state three out of her four years. She also holds a time of 12.2 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a time of 25.4 in the 200.

“Claire Young brings a wealth of talent to the team,” said Stevenson. “With a personal best this year of 5’8″ inches inches in the high jump, she might be a contender for a conference title as a freshman. She is also a standout sprinter and will bolster our relays quite a bit.”
