Local high school and junior high sports update for Aug. 22nd, 2017

Volleyball
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans defeated West Hancock 25-15, 25-23 in their season, and West Central Conference, opener. Carly Gillen led Monmouth-Roseville with 13 points. Delaney Woodard led in kills and assists with 5 and 15 respectively. Cora Neal had five blocks and Camryn Jones had five digs. Monmouth-Roseville also won the JV game but West Hancock was victorious in the freshman contest.

The United Red Storm beat Bushnell-Prairie City 25-7, 25-7 in a non-conference matchup at the Fieldhouse on the United High School campus. Vada Gregory and Janelle King led United with six kills apiece. Jordan Cook and Baylee McKeown each served four aces. McKeown handed out 15 assists. Cook led in digs with seven.

Wethersfield beat Putnam County 25-11, 25-7. Brittany Litton led the winners with ten kills.

Golf
The Galesburg Silver Streak boys were beaten by their Western Big Six Conference counterparts, the Alleman Pioneers, 156-164, to fall to (4-3) on the season. Owen Hawkins led the Streaks with a 2-over 38. Lucas Watson’s 41, Luke Bradburn’s 42 and Justin Endthoff’s 43 finished off a balanced scoring sheet for Galesburg. Alleman’s Gabe Beardsley was the meet medalist with a 2-under par 34.

Ridgewood was (1-1) in a 3-team meet with Rockridge and Erie. Levi Swanson’s 40 led Ridgewood.
