Local high school and junior high sports update for Aug. 25th, 2017

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season last night, falling to Knoxville 25-19, 26-24 at Monmouth-Roseville High School. Hannah jones led Knoxville with eight kills and four blocks. Emily Lenz had six kills and four digs. And Shelby shreeves led with ten assists. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Kaylee Woodard’s eight kills and five blocks. Camryn Jones and Carly Gillen had eight digs apiece.

Galesburg defeated Canton 25-16, 25-21 in their season opener in Canton. Yvonne Mixon led the winning Streaks with six kills. Hannah Huppenbauer had five kills and led the team in blocks with five. Megan Lingafelter and Madeline Carlson had nine assists each for Galesburg.

The A-Town Tornadoes beat South Fulton 25-23, 25-19in the Prairieland Conference opener for each team. Payton Florine led the Tornadoes in points with 11 and kills, with four. Courtney Moore handed out six assists.

The ROWVA Tigers lost to North Fulton 25-12, 25-22 in a non-conference matchup in Oneida. Sarah Hennenfent led ROWVA with two kills. Amber Johnson dished out four assists.

Golf

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans beat Knoxville 167-198 at Oak Run Golf Club. Nick Corman, Lane Frieden and Aaron Blindt were co-medalists for Monmouth-Roseville. JC Sells rounded out the scoring for the Titans with a 44. Knoxville was led by Logan Thompson’s 45.

The United Red Storm boys and girls golf teams traveled to Midland Dunes in Kewanee for multi-team meet. The Red Storm boys went (1-1) losing to Erie-Prophetstown but beating Annawan-Wethersfield. United’s Zach Marshall was the meet medalist once again. The Red Storm girls defeated Annawan-Wethersfield led by Erin Glisan’s 51.

The Galesburg girls golf team defeated Moline 181-212 at Lake Bracken Country Club yesterday. Kirsten Osborn was the meet medalist, leading the Streaks with a round of 39. Maitlyn Sanders added a 43 for Galesburg.

Cross Country

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys and girls cross country teams began their season last night with the Western Big Six Kick Off Meet in Moline. The Silver Streak girls took third, while the Streak boys were fourth. Getting medals for top-15 finishes for Galesburg were Kaitlyn Pendergast, who finished fourth individually, Lexi Herr with a seventh and Emma St. George with a 13th. On the boys side, Mark Frenster ws 11th, Aaron Burrows was 13th and John Peterson finished 14th.

Junior High

United defeated Williamsfield 8-3. Austin Thompson and Nolan Leffler were each 2-for-4. Caleb Copeland got the pitching win for Red Storm.

The ICS Trojans lost to West Central 12-1. Kaiden Droste was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and a home run for the winning Heat.
