Local High School & Junior High Sports Update For Aug. 29th, 2017

Cross Country

Kewanee Dunes Golf Course was the location of the Annawan-Wethersfield Titan Cross Country Invitational yesterday. Geneseo won the girls title, while the Galesburg Silver Streaks claimed the boys team championship. The Galesburg girls were 4th, Knoxville was 5th, Monmouth-Roseville was 6th and Ridgewood placed 10th as a team for our area teams. Individually, Galesburg was paced by Lexi Herr in 4th, Emma St. George in 13th and Emma Hawkinson was 15th to claim medals. Knoxville was led by Mackenzie Pruett’s 22nd place finish. Monmouth-Roseville’s Arika Hofmann was 12th and Jordan Copeland in 25th. Ridgewood was led by Carlie Barman’s 34th place finish. On the boy’s side, Ridgewood was 3rd as a team, followed by Knoxville in 4th. Monmouth-Roseville did not have enough participants to field a full team but the Titan’s Riley Dulin crossed the finish line first as an individual. Galesburg had six medalists, led by Aaron Burrows’ 5th place finish. John Peterson was 7th, Jared Shipp was 12th and Mark Frenster was 16th. Ridgewood had two medalists in Peter Rizzo in 9th and Andrew Hand in 17th. Knoxville’s top finishers included Christian Hensley in 13th and Dawson Hensley in 20th.

Volleyball

Monmouth-Roseville improved to (7-2) on the season with a 25-11, 25-19 win over Abingdon-Avon. The winning Titans were led by Delaney Woodard’s 10 assists and eight points. Carly Gillen had six kills Kaylee Woodard and Camryn Jones also served for eight points. A-Town’s Payton Florine led her team in kills with seven. Courtney Moore handed out eight assists.

Elsewhere, it was Kewanee over Ridgewood and Farmington defeating North Fulton 25-17, 25-14 in Prairieland Conference play.

Golf

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls finished 3rd in a tri-meet against Rockridge and Alleman at Oak Run Golf Course in Dahinda. The Blue Bullet’s team score of 233 was 27 shots behind Rockridge and only one stroke behind Alleman. Kaylyn Stearns led Knoxville with a 55.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis was shutout by Sterling 5-0.

Junior High

The A-Town Tornado junior high baseball team defeated ICS 11-1 yesterday in Avon. Cormaic Flynn and Kittner McVey had the only two hits for ICS.
