Meredith Witherell Named Knox Tennis Coach

GALESBURG, Illinois – Meredith Witherell has been named head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Knox College, interim athletic directors Scott Sunderland and Lexie Vernon announced.  Witherell has experience with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as a professional and
director of tennis for the Galesburg Tennis Management Group.

Witherell has strong ties to the Galesburg area and local tennis associations. She has previous experience at Knox working in the Lincoln Studies Center and the Office of Student Development. She also has been an instructor at Carl Sandburg College for the last nine years.

“Meredith’s background as a competitive tennis player and teacher is a recipe for success in this position,” said Vernon. “She brings a true passion for the game and the student-athlete that is bound to continue the growth of Prairie Fire Tennis.”

A native of Colorado, Witherell has lived in the Galesburg area for nearly 20 years. She graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Psychology and went on to earn her M.A. in Gerontology from Western Illinois University. She is a lifelong tennis player and still plays regularly.

Witherell will begin her duties right away with the women’s tennis season
opening up September 1 at Wartburg College.
