MWC Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll

GRINNELL, Iowa – After winning the Midwest Conference (MWC) Tournament last fall, the St. Norbert College men’s soccer team has been picked to win the 2017 men’s soccer conference championship.

The Green Knights totaled 79 points and earned seven of a possible nine first-place votes, as the coaches are not allowed to vote for their own program.  The last two regular season champions, Knox College and Lake Forest College tied for second place in the poll with 70 points each.  Grinnell College is expected to return to the four-team MWC Tournament after earning 57 points.

“The rankings are probably a fair reflection of how others view us and how they feel the conference will shake out,” said head coach Tyler Sheikh. I can guarantee there will be movers from both ends of those rankings with all 10 programs in the Midwest Conference fighting to be number 1 at the end of the season.  We look forward to the contests.”

Monmouth College is expected to remain in fifth (42), while Cornell College was picked sixth (37) and Illinois College seventh (35).  Lawrence University was selected eighth (24), followed by Beloit College (23) and Ripon College (13).

The regular season kicks off on September 1 with nine teams in action.  The Midwest Conference season starts on September 23 and the conference tournament will be on November 3 and 4.
