Red Storm's Milroy Excited For 2017

Share

David Milroy is entering into his first season as Head Coach of the United Red Storm football program. Heading into the fall, Milroy has one number in mind when he talks about his football team: 10.

“Coming off a 1-8 year last year, you get that vibe of, they expect you to finish there again,” Milroy said. “They’ve kind of really taken that in – the upperclassmen have – and made it a point that that’s not where we want to finish.  We decided that one of our team goals is that we want to play 10 games this year.”

Milroy acknowledges that he’s inheriting a young team, but he’s willing to embrace the process of building up his own program if his players buy in with effort and enthusiasm.

“We’ve got sophomores that will have to play at the varsity level right now, just with some of the numbers we have. But they’ve done a nice job, and they’re working. They’re going to make those sophomore mistakes – they will – but if they’re doing it full-speed and giving it what they’ve got, we can live with that. We can live with the young, growing pain mistakes,” he said.

Milroy and the Red Storm open up the season on the road at Illini West on Friday, Aug. 25th. The game starts at 7:00 p.m.
