Sparclones' Roddis Eager to Start Season
After sneaking into the playoffs a season ago, the BPC/West Prairie Sparclones aren’t satisfied. David Roddis’ team returns 17 starters from last year’s group, which bodes well for 2017. But even with the success of last season, Roddis wants his team to focus on the week in front of them, not a return to the postseason.
“Right now, we’re focused on Rushville Week 1,” Roddis said. “We’ve talked about the playoffs because now they know what it’s about. We obviously want to pursue that, but we know that in order to do that, we have to take it one week at a time.”
The Sparclones lost three 1,000-yard rushers from a season ago. Normally, that would be a pressing issue for most teams, but Roddis believes a strong offensive line, an improved defense, and a senior quarterback could be the formula for success for this year’s team.
“This group is going to be exciting to watch. They’re going to bring a lot of enthusiasm to the field on Friday night. We get excited out here just watching them at practice. I’m just waiting for that moment on Friday night. I think our fans are going to enjoy that, and I think that’s just going to help feed us,” Roddis said.
BPC/West Prairie will start their season at home against Rushville/Industry on Friday, Aug. 25th, at 7:00 p.m.
