United's Jeff Whitsitt Talks About State of School District 304

The United School District will resume classes on Wednesday, August 23rd. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt discussed various projects the district has been working on throughout the summer.

“We’re doing a big technology upgrade, so we’ve been doing some wiring and things like that, particularly out at our West campus building,” Whitsitt said. We’ve had a reasonable amount of turnover this year. The technology upgrades have really been the focus.”

The Red Storm will also be introducing a brand new baseball field at their South campus building. Whitsitt hopes that the field can be ready for the upcoming baseball season in the Spring of 2018.

“One of the things we struggle with is, our practices start later because we have to get kids where they belong (15 minutes away in Alexis). This will really shore that up. It will save us on the transportation side of things quite a bit. It basically takes an entire run out of each day. Our goal has been to make our high school a full-service building. That’s our high school. That’s our kid’s high school. That’s where they belong,” he said.

Whitsitt remains hopeful that the State of Illinois can resolve the ongoing state educational funding issues in the coming months. You can hear more from United’s Superintendent at the upcoming Education Roundtable, which will be held at Security Savings Bank on Tuesday, August 15th, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
