Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 1st, 2017

Volleyball

The United Red Storm volleyball team remained undefeated on the season with a 25-20, 25-23 non-conference win over the Macomb Bombers at the Fieldhouse on the United campus. United, now (3-0) on the season, was led by Vada Gregory’s five kills, Baylee McKeown’s 17 assists and Jordian Cook’s 13 digs. Cook also served three aces.

The West Central Heat beat BPC, 25-13, 25-19. The Heat were led in kills by Corinne Booton with four. She also totaled eight digs. Tori Olson dished out eight assists for West Central. BPC’s Savannah Serven had four kills and 14 assists.
It ws Knoxville defeating A-Town 25-15, 25-22 in Prairieland Conference play. Knoxville was led by Hannah jones with 8 kills. Shelby shreeves had 6 kills and 11 assists. Makayla benson led the Blue Bullets with 13 assists. A town was led by Payton Florine with 6 kills, Charli Johnson had 8 digs, Courtney Moore had 6 assists.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks dropped a three set match to Dunlap, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23. Hannah Huppenbauer led Galesburg with nine kills. She was also the team leader in digs with eight. Megan Lingafelter handed out 11 assists and served five aces, while leading in digs, as well, with ten.

Elsewhere, it was ROWVA losing to Kewanee, 25-9, 25-8….Wethersfield over Rockridge 25-19, 25-8……and Delavan defeating Williamsfield 25-20, 25-18.

Golf

Monmouth-Roseville beat Orion on the Charger’s home course of Valley View 179-185. The winning Titans were led by meet medalist Nick Corman’s 39 and JC Sells’ 44.

The United Red Storm girls golf team stayed undefeated in dual matches this season at (6-0) with a narrow 237-240 win over Mercer County at Aledo’s Hawthorn Ridge. United’s Paige McKeown was the meet medalist with a 53. Alex King and Emily Grodjesk chipped in with 60’s. The United boys finished (0-2) vs. Ridgewood and Mercer County, shooting a 213 team score. Individually, Evan Wynne shot a 47 and Zach Marshall carded a 54 to lead United.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls were beaten by Quincy 179-185 at Bunker Links in Galesburg. Maitlyn Sanders shot a 42 to lead Galesburg. The Streak’s Kirsten Osborn shot a 44 and Rylee Chockley carded a 46.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streaks get another shutout, beating Macomb 2-0. Ezechial Biamungu had both goals in the game for Galesburg. The Streaks, who out-shot the Bombers 15-4, are now (4-1-1) on the season. The JV Streaks won their match as well, 2-1. Isaiah Mowen and Logan Sykes had the Galesburg goals.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan baseball team defeated Galva 9-7. The Trojans were led at the plate by CJ Johnson and Aidan Parkins, who were both 3-for-5. Parkins had three RBIs. One of Johnson’s hits went for a triple. Getting two hits in the game for ICS was Cormaic Flynn, Ty Corsaro and Nick Lewis-Bresnahan. Zach Almaguer, Leo Mahoney and Jake Steele combined for the pitching win.
