GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team rallied from an early two-goal deficit and settled for a 2-2 draw with Lake County on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Chargers (3-6-1, 3-3-1 Region IV) struck twice in a span of 1:29 in the second half to even it, getting goals from Matteo Troiani (Rome, Italy/Gaetanode Sanctis) and sophomore Daniel Freedman (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton).

Trailing 2-0, Jacques Basoka Mubenga (Vilvoorde, Belgium/Vilvoorde) settled the ball off a rebound and passed to Troiani, who was outside the top of the box. His blast went into the right side of the goal to get the Chargers on the board in the 62nd minute.

Less than 90 seconds later, Freedman took a pass from Victor Dantas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/CESEC) and shot a knuckler from about 25 yards out that one-hopped in front of the Lancers (1-5-1, 1-4-1) keeper and through his legs, tying the game at 2 in the 64th minute.

The teams went scoreless the rest of the way, including two 10-minute overtime periods. Freedman had a goal waved off in the opening minute of the first OT session because he was ruled offside.

Lake County opened up a 2-0 halftime lead behind a penalty kick from Cristian Guerrero in the second minute and another goal in the 18th minute.

Sophomore George Mutimer made two saves in goal for the Chargers.

Sandburg will step out of Region IV action to face Heartland at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Normal.
