Griswold Talks New Hunting Change for 2017

A new law will allow hunters in Illinois to use crossbows without restriction during this upcoming hunting season. Starting on Oct. 1st, hunters can use crossbows without restriction to hunt deer, turkey, and various other game. Terry Griswold, owner of Griswold Archery in Galesburg, talked about the new developments.
“You had to be 62 or over, handicapped, 14 and under, or you could use a crossbow after the second shotgun season. But now, you’ll be able to hunt right from the beginning of the season, which will give you a little bit of an advantage. A lot of people are going to try and take advantage of that,” Griswold said.
Griswold has been running his archery business for 43 years. He encourages anyone wanting to get their start in hunting to come by his business, which is located on Route 164, four miles west of Galesburg.
“We are very committed to getting a person set up the right way. You don’t buy a pair of shoes without trying them on. If anybody is interested in learning to shoot a crossbow, they’re welcome to come out and try it,” he said.
The upcoming archery season will run from Oct. 1st to Jan. 14th. Archery season will be closed from Nov. 17-19 and Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in counties that allow firearm deer hunting. For more information about the new change, or to get in touch with Griswold Archery, call 309-342-7889.
