Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 12th, 2017

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team ran their unbeaten streak to 10 games and their overall record to (8-1-3) on the year with another shutout, this time 3-0 against Beardstown at Eugene Tinker Field in Roseville. Grego Massengo opened the scoring in the game’s fourth minute. The Titans’ lead doubled the lead with 8:07 left in the first half when Kyaw Thang scored and then closed out the strong performance in the second half, adding a final goal on a 25-yard blast by Erick Suarez.

Volleyball

United beat A-Town 25-16, 25-12 in a non-conference matchup in Abingdon. Leading United was Vada Gregory with nine kills, Baylee McKeown with 17 assists and Jordian Cook and Carly Thompson with seven digs each. Stat leaders for A-Town included Payton Florine with four kills and Courtney Moore with five assists. Charli Johnson recorded seven digs.

Geneseo swept the Galesburg Silver Streaks in two sets 27-25, 25-15 as the Streaks fall to (5-6) overall. Leading Galesburg was Hannah Huppenbauer with seven kills and Maddie Carlson with 14 assists.

Elsewhere, it was the Ridgewood Spartans over ROWVA 25-10, 25-20 in a non-con in Oneida. The Spartans were led by Destiny Kidd with five kills. Annie Althaus had seven blocks and six digs and Alli Lambin gave out 15 assists for Ridgewood. Kelsey Lindquist led ROWVA with two kills and Jaylen Haynes gave out five assists for ROWVA.

North Fulton beat Williamsfield 25-16, 25-13, 26-24 at Williamsfield. Gionna Ott filled up the stat sheet for Williamsfield six kills, 12 digs and gave out 10 assists to lead Williamsfield.

Golf

The Monmouth-Roseville boys golf team split a pair of matches with Macomb and West Central. The Titans team score of 175 was 10 strokes more than Macomb and 78 strokes less than the Heat. JC Sells led Monmouth-Roseville with a 41. Also scoring for the Titans was Aaron Blindt’s 43, Lane Frieden’s 45 and Nick Corman’s 46. West Central was led by Logan Shirey with a round of 59. Dylan Dermer chipped in with a 61 and Mikayla Lange carded a 65.

Kirsten Osborn shot a 40 to lead the Galesburg High School girls golf team to a win over Geneseo and Knoxville at Lake Bracken Country Club on Monday. The Silver Streaks scored a 178 edging the Maple Leafs with a 185. The Blue Bullets finished the round with a 232. Rylee Chockley shot a 42, Caitlin Sanders had a 46 and Becca Watson finished with a 50 for Galesburg. Dedra Ratermann led Knoxville with a 56. Also for the Blue Bullets, Kaylyn Stearns had a 59, Hollan Wright finished with a 60 and Kyle Luptak scored a 62.

The Silver Streak boys traveled to Highland Springs Golf Course in the Quad Cities and came home with a 174-183 victory over Rock Island. Owen Hawkins earned medalist honors with a 39 to lead Galesburg. Justin Endthoff carded a 42, Luke Bradburn finished with a 47 and Lucas Watson scored a 48.

Tennis

The Galesburg High School girls tennis team fell to Rock Island 6-3 at the Art Fish Memorial Courts on Monday. Adyson Eastburg in the No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-3. Reagan Mudd in the No. 3 singles match and No. 5 singles player Tiara Pendleton won her match.
