Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 15th, 2017

Golf

The United Red Storm girls golf team went (2-0) last night in a triangular match at Oak Run Golf Course in Dahinda yesterday. The Red Storm scored a team total of 197 to beat both Knoxville’s 203 and Farmington’s 209. Knoxville had the meet medalist in Dedra Ratermann. She carded a 46. United’s four scorers were led by Alex King’s 47. She was joined by Erin Glison’s 48, Emily Grodjesk’s 50 and Paige McKewon’s 52. Also scoring for Knoxville was Hollan Wright with a 48, Kaylyn Stearns’ 53 and Hallie Winstead’s 56.

The Red Storm boys went (0-2) in their three-team match at Oak Run. The Storm shot a team total of 186, which was 16 strokes behind the Williamsfield Bombers and six behind Illini Bluffs. United’s Evan Wynne claimed meet medalist honors with a 41. Zach Marshall shot a 43, Dhylan Hepner carded a 50 and Drew Brown scored a 53 for the Red Storm. Austin Larson led Williamsfield with a 42.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet boys were also at Oak Run as they hosted Farmington in a dual match. The Blue Bullets were victorious 196-202. Logan Thompson and George Dredge each shot 47s to lead Knoxville. Nathan Erickson and Daniel Dredge both scored 54s to round out the scoring for the Blue Bullets.

Volleyball

The A-Town Tornadoes fell to Rushville/Industry in three close sets, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets beat South Fulton in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17. Lauren Kavangh had four kills and 14 points, including four aces for the (10-3). Shelby Shreeves handed out 13 assists to lead Knoxville in that category.

Farmingon defeated BPC 25-9, 25-8. Savannah Serven led BPC in digs, with five and scored four points. Mollie Bartlett led in kills with three.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team improved to (5-3-1) on the season with a 5-0 blanking of Kewanee at Van Dyke Field on the Galesburg High School campus. Ezechiel Biamungu scored a hat trick for the Streaks and Merdy Diatoko had the final two goals in the game.

Tennis

The Silver Streak girls tennis team was shutout by Washington 9-0 on the road at Washington High School.
The Galesburg girls golf team went (2-0) in a triangular against Alleman and Rock Island in the Quad Cities. The Silver Streaks scored a team total of 170. Alleman shot a 214 and Rock Island, a 226. Kirsten Osborn was the meet medalist with a 37. Also scoring for Galesburg was Rylee Chockley with a 40, Maitlyn Sanders chipped in with a 43 and Becca Watson carded a 50.

Junior High

Galesburg Jr. High’s Luca Gomez finished 6th of 104 runners in the boys division at the Galesburg Junior High Cross Country Invitational at Lake Storey Park. Gomez posted a season PR earned an individual medal for his efforts. He led Galesburg to a 7th place finish among the 15 complete teams. Max Martinez placed 37th and teammate Andrew Peterson was 38th. The Galesburg girls placed 9th of 12 teams in their division, paced by Briana Admire. Admire was 31st of 94 runners, with Olivia Owen and Natasha Nickas also recording top-50 efforts in 43rd and 49th.
