Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept 21st, 2017

Volleyball

Full night of volleyball games in the Lincoln Trail Conference last night as they commenced week three of league play. The United Red Storm improved their overall record to (11-2) overall and (3-0) in the LTC with a 25-9, 25-16 victory over (1-2) Williamsfield. Vada Gregory led the Red Storm with seven kills. Baylee McKeown handed out 14 assists and Jordian Cook hustled her way to 12 digs. Janelle King added three blocks for United. Williamsfield drops to (6-11) overall and were led by Alivia Alford’s ten kills and Gionna Ott’s 13 assists.

Wethersfield also remained undefeated in the conference at (3-0) with a 25-19, 25-9 win over (2-1) Princeville. The Flying Geese are now (16-0) overall on the season.

The West Central Heat hosted Stark County in Biggsville and held serve at home with a 25-16, 25-13 win against the Rebels. Corinne Booton smashed six kills, blocked three shots and had 14 digs for West Central. Tori Olson handed out 14 assists and scored 13 points for the Heat. West Central is now (1-2) in the conference and (6-4) overall.

Mercer County has an extra game in so far and are now (3-1) in the Lincoln Trail after garnering a 25-20, 25-13 win over ROWVA. Leading ROWVA was Abby Stowe with three kills and Jaylen Haynes dished out five assists and had five digs to lead the Tigers in those categories.

Finally, it was the Ridgewood Spartans beating Galva in the only 3-setter of the night in the LTC, beating Galva 25-15, 24-26, 25-14 in Woodhull. Jenna Stromquist filled up the stat sheet for Ridgewood with six kills, 12 blocks and 16 digs. Hannah Barman totaled ten assists and Annie Althaus scored 16 points for the Spartans. Ridgewood is now (2-0) in the LTC.

The Macomb Bombers took over first place in the West Central Conference with a straight-set win over Camp Point Central. The Bombers are now (4-1) in the WCC, a half game ahead of the Monmouth-Roseville Titans. The Titans host (0-4) West Hancock tonight at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The varsity match is scheduled to begin at around 7:00.

Golf

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans shot a team total of 168 and took third in a 4-school meet at Highland Springs Golf Course. Rockridge shot a 162, Peru St. Bede carded a 166 and Sherrard garnered a team total of 169. Nick Corman led Monmouth-Roseville with a 38. Reese Kane shot a 42, Lane Frieden a 43 and Aaron Blindt a 45 for the Titans.

The United Red Storm boys and girls golf teams were in action last night. The boys lost to Mid-County 171-175. The Red Storm were led by Zach Marshall’s 41, Evan Wynne’s 43, Dhylan Hepner’s 44 and Andrew Fuller’s 47.

The Red Storm girls shot a team score of 208 but Mid County did not have enough girls to record a team score. Emily Grodjesk led United with a 47. Also scoring for the Red Storm was Gabby Neice with a 52, Paige McKeown shot a 54 and Alex King shot a round of 55.

Junior High

After falling behind 7-0 at the half, the Galesburg eighth grade football team beat Geneseo White 22-7 last night in Geneseo. Alex Egipciaco scored a pair of touchdowns for Galesburg.
