Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 26th, 2017

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team took on their usual postseason rival, Peoria Christian, at Monmouth-Roseville Junior High School in Roseville. Following a scoreless first half, the Titans posted a 4-0. Scoring goals for Monmouth-Roseville was Chum Liang, Gilberto Vazquez, Alan Ayala and Robert Lian. Edgar Mora earned the shutout in goal as the Titans improved to 11-3-3 on the year heading into Thursday’s match at Galesburg.

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball team hosted Farmington last night at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The Titans win the first set rather easily 25-13 but had to go to overtime in set two to get a 31-29, straight set victory. The Titans are now (14-6), while Farmington falls to (12-5). Monmouth-Roseville was led to Kaylee Woodard’s eight kills, Delaney Woodard’s ten assists and Camryn Jones’ ten digs.

A full schedule of five matches were played in the Lincoln Trail Conference. Starting with the United Red Storm, who took on Ridgewood at home. The Storm remain perfect in the LTC at (4-0) with an easy 25-15, 25-8 win. The Storm were led by Vada Gregory and Jerzi Johnson’s seven kills apiece. Baylee McKeown handed out 18 assists and Jordian Cook totaled 13 digs. For Ridgewood, Mackenzie Coziahr smashed two kills and Hannah Barham dished out five assits.

Wethersfield is also (4-0) in the LTC and now (21-0) overall as the Flying Geese get a 25-10, 25-11 win over Williamsfield. For Wethersfield, Brittney Litton had nine kills and two blocks. Williamsfield got three kills and three blocks from Alivia Alford.

West Central fell to (1-3) in the conference with a three-set loss to Mercer County on the road in Aledo. Corrine Booton led West Central with 25 digs and nine kills. Tori Olson had 25 assists and Mady Reed had 25 digs.

ROWVA lost to Annawan 25-9, 25-23 to get their first win in the Lincoln Trail. Paige Swanson had eight digs for ROWVA.

Finally in the Lincoln Trail Conference, it was Princeville beating Stark County 25-6, 25-8.

In the Prairieland Conference, Lewistown defeated A-Town 25-13, 25-17.

Golf

In high school golf yesterday, Monmouth-Roseville traveled to Baker Park in Kewanee to battle the Boilermakers. Monmouth-Roseville wins the dual match 162-170. Nick Corman shot a 1-over par 36 to earn meet medalist honors. Lane Frieden chipped in with a 40, Aaron Blindt carded a 41 and JC Sells scored a 45 to round out the Titan scoring.

The United Red Storm boys bested Stark County 185-211. The Storm were led by Evan Wynne’s 42. He was joined in the scoring quartet by Drew Brown’s 47 and Dyhlan Hepner and Zach Marshall’s 48’s.

Tennis

The only Galesburg Silver Streak team in action last night was the girls tennis team as they hosted the Macomb Bombers at Art Fish Courts in Galesburg. The Streaks fall to the Bombers 7-2. Getting wins for Galesburg was Tiara Pendleton at #5 singles and Pendlton joined up with Kennedi Davis for a doubles win as well.

Junior High

he Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade split a pair of games against ROWVA. The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade get a 30-13 win over the Tigers. Addi Switzer lead the Titans in scoring with 9 points. The 8th grade lady Titans lost to Rowva 28-18. Leading scorers for the Titans Cristina Dilley and Jayda Brown-Dodd with
5pts.
