Local High School And Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 6th, 2017

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball team remained unbeaten in the West Central Conference at (2-0) and improved to (10-5) overall with a straight-set, 25-11, 25-12 home victory over Camp Point Central last night. The Titans were led by Kaylee Woodard’s six kills and 13 points, including six aces. Carly Gillen led the team in kills with eight and Woodard’s sister Delaney handed out ten assists.

The United Red Storm dropped their first match of the season, losing to Southeastern 21-25, 25-23, 25-18 at United High School. No details were given for this one.

It was the Knoxville Blue Bullets beating Ridgewood 25-16, 25-19 in Woodhull. The Bullets were led by Emily Lenz’ seven kills and eight digs. Katie Hummel scored 17 points, including three aces and Shelby Shreeves totaled ten assists. Ridgewood was led by Destiny Kidd’s two kills and Annie Althaus’ six points and three blocks.

Bushnell-Prairie City defeated Peoria Heights 25-11, 25-12 in a Prairieland Conference matchup. Mollee Bartlett led BPC with five kills and eight assists. Mariah Garzee totaled 17 points. Haley Hood had twelve points with three kills.
Elsewhere, it was A-Town over ROWVA 25-16, 25-18. Courtney Moore filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, five aces and twelve assists. Payton Florine led the Tornadoes with eleven kills. For ROWVA, Hannah Parkinson had twelve digs.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks defeated Richwoods 25-14, 25-17. Yvonne Mixon led Galesburg with eight kills and two blocks. Maddie Carlson was the top assist-getter with nine.

In other Prairieland Conference matches, North Fulton beat South Fulton 25-22, 21-25 and 25-20. It was Brimfield over Elmwood in straight sets and Rushville-Industry defeated Havana also in two sets.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streaks lost a classic matchup with Rock Island in a Western Big Six match in Galesburg. The Streaks fall in overtime 5-3. Ezechiel Biamungu, Gedeon Mukeba and Joel Bizau each had a goal for Galesburg, who are now (4-2-1) on the season.

Golf

The Silver Streak boys and girls were both in action. The Galesburg girls beat Mercer County 187-235 at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg. Kirsten Osborn was the meet medalist with a 42. Maitlyn Sanders tied with a pair of 43’s. The Silver Streak boys lost a heartbreaker to Macomb 213-214 on a fifth man tiebreaker at Bunker Links Golf Course in Galesburg. Owen Hawkins’ 37 was the low score for the meet. He was joined in the scoring column by Lucas Watson’s 42, Luke Bradburn’s 43 and Justin Endthoff’s 44.

The United Red Storm girls golf team dropped to (6-1) in dual matches this season, losing to Sherrard 186-221. Leading the way for United was Emily Grodjesk’s 43. She was joined by Haley Marshall and Erin Glisan’s 55’s and Gabby Neice’s 57. Sherrard’s Nikki Schmidt was the meet medalist with a 41.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg Silver Streak swimming and diving team traveled to Rock Island for a dual match at Rock Island High School. Galesburg was on the losing end of another close decision on a night full of them for Galesburg, falling to the Rocks 95-90. Lauren Pio was a double individual winner, getting firsts in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. Also placing first individually was Hailey Glasnovich as she touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle race. Ari Bailey won the 1 meter diving competition and the 200 freestyle relay team of Glasnovich, Pio, Abby Cermak and Sophie Lotz won their event as well.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team defeated East Peoria 5-4. Getting singles wins for Galesburg was Taylor Hostens at #1, TaCoya Harris at #2, Adyson Eastburg at #4 and Tiara Pendleton at #6 singles. The doubles winner for the Streaks was Harris and Shamara Sargent at #2.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade football teams split a pair of games with Mid-County in Oneida to open their 2017 campaign. The Titans won the 7th grade game 18-0. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade team lost to the Cougars 20-0.
