Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 8th, 2017

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team increased their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 5-1 win over the Canton Little Giants last night in Canton. Goal scorers for the Titans included Gilberto Vazquez, Kyaw Thang, Alan Ayala and Robert Lian. Monmouth-Roseville is now (6-1-3).

 

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville volleyball team lost their first match in West Central Conference play last night in Carthage with a 25-15, 20-25, 25-18 loss to Illini West. Leading the way for the Titans was Carly Gillen with 19 kills and 3.5 blocks. Kaylee Woodard led in digs with 13 and her sister Delaney handed out 19 assists.

Knoxville was beaten by Rushville-Industry 25-20, 25-23. Emily Lenz filled up the stat sheet for Knoxville as she totaled five kills, six blocks and 10 digs. Alis Bickell made nine blocks, Lauren Kavanagh had 10 digs and Shelby Shreeves gave out nine assists for the Blue Bullets.

Bushnell-Prairie City fell to North Fulton 26-24, 25-15 in Cuba. BPC was led by Mariah Garzee’s nine points. SaVannah Serven led in kills with three and assists with two.

West Prairie had no trouble with South Fulton, winning 25-3, 25-8. Peyton Bowman led West Prairie with nine kills and Cora Vyhnanek with 15 assists.

Also, it was Farmington defeating Peoria Heights 25-10, 25-20.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks stepped out of Western Big Six Conference play with a trip to Macomb. The Bombers get the non-conference win 25-23, 26-24. Emily Meinert and Hannah Huppenbauer led Galesburg with five kills each. Maddie Carlson and Megan Lingafelter each handed out eleven assists for Galesburg to lead in that category.

Golf

The United Red Storm girls easily outdistanced Riverdale 215-242 at Byron Hills Golf Club in Port Byron. Erin Glisan from United was the meet medalist with a 50. Also scoring for United was Paige McKeown’s 54, Alex King’s 55 and Emily Grodjesk’s 56.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls golf team beat Mercer County in a home meet at Oak Run Golf Course in Dahinda 209-212. Knoxville’s Hollan Wright carded meet medalist honors with a 49. Dedra Ratermann shot a 52, Hallie Winstead had a 53 and Kylie Luptak shot a 55 for Knoxville.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls golf team beat Sherrard at Fyre Lake 173-234. The Streaks were led by Kirsten Osborn’s one-over par round of 36. Maitlyn Sanders added a 43, Rylee Chockley had a 45 and Becca Watson finished with a 49 for the Silver Streaks, who are now 5-1 in dual matches this season.

Tennis

The Galesburg girls tennis team beat Limestone 5-4 in a home match at Art Fish Courts yesterday. Getting individual wins for Galesburg was Adyson Eastburg, Regan Mudd and Tiara Pendleton. Winning doubles teams for Galesburg was Taylor Hostens and Eastburg and Gwendolyn Allison and Mudd.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high baseball team beat West Prairie 6-4. Aidan Parkins and Cormaic Flynn had two hits each for ICS. Both of Flynn’s hits were triples and each player drove in two runs as well. Zach Almaguer got the pitching win for ICS, going 6.2 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts.
ICS, West Central and United finish up play in the West Prairie Junior High Baseball Tournament in Colchester on Saturday. ICS will play LaHarpe/Dallas City for third place at 10am, while United will play for the consolation championship against West Central at noon.

The Galesburg junior high cross country team took on Mercer County, East Peoria and Orion yesterday. The Galesburg girls placed 3rd, led by Briana Admire’s 3rd place finish. Olivia Owen was 8th as well. The Galesburg boys finished 3rd. They were led by Lucas Gomez and Max Martinez in 6th and 7th respectively.
