McCrery Talks Medicare Options for Seniors

Share

The Strom Center in Monmouth helps senior citizens get the care and assistance they need to live worry-free. Carol McCrery, Director of the Strom Center, is happy that she can help people learn about programs that can benefit them, and make life easier with more cost-friendly alternatives like options counseling.
“A person might come in, and they maybe have a hard time taking care of their medication costs. In visiting with them, we realize that there’s a whole host of programs that they may be entitled to, and yet, are not even aware of,” McCrery said.
McCrery wants seniors to seek out the care and help that they need, but she wants them to also realize that once they are enrolled in a program by Dec. 7th, they are stuck with that program the following year – even if their medications are changed or altered.
“We do two things: There’s a formulary book that your medication program has provided you. Make sure you take that to the doctor, and have him look at the medications that are covered. The other thing is, we try to advocate on their behalf with the pharmaceutical company, or with that insurance company to see if there’s exceptions,” McCrery stated.
Later this fall, the Strom Center will be holding five informational meetings for seniors looking to enroll in medicare programs – three in Warren County, two in Henderson County. Dates and times for those meetings will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information about the Strom Center, call 309-734-5677.
