Monmouth College Rolls In Football Battle Of The Scots

Yansay Williams caught a pair of touchdown passes and Joey Biel nailed a pair of field goals as Monmouth won the battle of the Scots with a 26-0 win at Macalester.

Monmouth used six backs and eight receivers to net 317 yards  of offense while the defense surrendered just 110 yards. Void of any huge gains, Monmouth spread the wealth and churned out 17 points first half points on Williams’ two TD grabs and Biel’s 23-yard field goal. Biel added another from 49-yards out in the third quarter and Joshua McKenzie scored on a 23-yard fourth-quarter run to put Monmouth back on the winning track.

Monmouth’s Scots cashed in on a 4th-and-goal from the three early in the second quarter to get the ball rolling when Hayden Nelson hit Williams for the score. The Scots’ defense then recorded one of three interceptions on the day with Macalester’s ensuing possession as D.J. Frank‘s pick set up Biel’s first field goal. Micam Smith added two more interceptions as the Scots held Macalaester to just 124 yards in the air and -14 on the ground.

Monmouth returns home next Saturday to host Lawrence in a 1 p.m. kickoff at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
