Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball team clinched at least a share of the West Central Conference’s North Division championship with a 25-13, 23-25, 25-21 victory over their rivals, the Macomb Bombers. The Titans improve to (22-7) on the season and are now (6-1) in division play. The Bombers fall to (16-13) overall and (5-2) in the North Division. The Titans, who can claim an outright title with a win at (1-5) Camp Point Central on the 19th, were led by Carly Gillen’s 14 kills and four blocks. Delaney Woodard handed out 19 assists and scored 11 points and Kaylee Woodard hustled her way to 18 digs for Monmouth-Roseville.

In another of three important matchups last night, the United Red Storm defeated Princeville 25-19, 25-20 to remain unbeaten at (7-0) in the Lincoln Trail Conference. Princeville falls to (6-2). No details were given for this one. United is now (21-5) overall.

The Wethersfield Flying Geese are now (26-0) overall and also (7-0) in the LTC after their dominating 25-2, 25-6 win over Galva.

Elsewhere in the Lincoln Trail Conference, it was West Central over ROWVA 25-16, 25-20. The winning Heat got four kills and 12 digs from Corinne Booton. Lacey Bigger scored 11 points and handed out four assists. Tori Olson also had four assists and had eight digs.

Mercer County beat Ridgewood 25-22, 20-25, 25-19 and Annawan dispatched Williamsfield 25-17, 25-13.

The third big volleyball matchup in our listening area was in the Prairieland Conference. The West Prairie Cyclones and the Lewistown Indians both came into last night undefeated in conference play but it was the Indians who ended the night still undefeated. After dropping the opening set, the Indians get an exciting three set win over Cyclones, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22. Lewistown is now (20-6) overall and (10-0) in the Prairieland. The Cyclones are now (21-7) overall and (10-1) in conference play. Lewistown has North Fulton and Knoxville left to play on their conference schedule.

BPC lost to Havana 25-20, 25-13. SaVannah Serven led BPC with three kills and six digs. Katie Fitch dished out five assists as well for the Spartans.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks volleyball team lost a non-conference match against Peoria Notre Dame 25-16, 25-19 at John Thiel Gymnasium in Galesburg. Emily Meinert had four kills and four digs for Galesburg, while Megan Lingafelter handed out nine assists.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team moved on to the championship game of the Class 1A Rock Island Alleman regional with a rain-soaked 5-0 win over Kewanee. The Titans, who are (16-3-3) on the season, were led by Gilberto Vazquez’s two goals. Also scoring for Monmouth-Roseville was Chum Ling, Grego Massengo and Alan Ayala. The Titans will play the host Alleman Pioneers, who were 3-0 winners over Illini Bluffs in the second semi-final last night, at 11am on Saturday morning in the championship game at the Alleman Sports Complex.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team celebrated senior night with a 6-3 win over Kewanee. Due to drenching rains in the area, the match was moved indoors to the Lakeside Tennis Courts. Getting singles wins for Galesburg was Adyson Eastburg at #1, Taylor Hostens at #2, Regan Mudd at #3 and Tiara Pendleton at #5. Mudd and Gwendolyn Allison teamed up for a win at #1 doubles and Hostens and Eastburg teamed up for a win at #2 doubles.
