Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 13th, 2017

Volleyball

After wins last night, the United Red Storm and Wethersfield Flying Geese volleyball teams are on a collision course for a Lincoln Trail Conference championship meeting on Monday night in Kewanee. The Red Storm earned a victory over Mercer County in Aledo last evening, 25-13, 25-12. United was led by Vada Gregory’s 11 kills, Baylee McKeown’s 19 assists and Jordian Cook’s 17 digs.

The Flying Geese were victorious over Stark County 25-15, 25-12. Wethersfield and United are now (8-0) in the LTC, with both having two conference matches remaining on their schedules.

Elsewhere in the Lincoln Trail, it was West Central over Williamsfield 25-23, 25-20. The Heat are now (4-5) in the LTC and were led by Corinne Booton’s ten digs, seven kills and five service points. Tori Olson hit double figures in assists and digs with ten in each category and Danyel McKune chipped in with four kills.

The Ridgewood Spartans moved to (3-5) in league play with a three set win over ROWVA. The Spartans were led by Alli Lambin and Mackenzie Coziahr’s eight kills each. Jenna Stromquist hustled her way to 15 digs as well for Ridgewood. For the Tigers, Abby Stowe had seven kills and Jaylen Haynes handed out 14 assists. Paige Swanson had nine digs as well for ROWVA, who is winless in the LTC at (0-8).

Finally, it was Annawan over Galva, 25-11, 25-19. Annawan in (5-3) in Lincoln Trail Conference.

In the Prairieland Conference, Knoxville defeated Peoria Heights 25-6, 25-11…….South Fulton defeated BPC 25-23, 25-20…..it was Farmington over Havana 25-13, 25-20 and Lewistown beat North Fulton 25-15, 25-23.

In West Central Conference North Division action, Illini West dominated West Hancock 25-12, 25-17.

Cross Country

Lake Storey was the place for the Western Big Six Conference cross country championships. The Galesburg Silver Streak girls placed 3rd and the boys finished in 4th place. Moline won the girls team title and Alleman won the boy’s side. Kaitlyn Pendergast and Lexi Herr made the all-conference team with a 2nd and 4th place respectively. Emma St. George earned an honorable mention with a 9th place finish. John Peterson was 12th, Aaron Burrows was 16th, Mark Frenster was 18th and Alex Buchen was 19th for the Silver Streak boys.

Junior High

The ICS Trojans swept the ROWVA Tigers in Oneida. The Trojan 7th grade won 31-6, led by Mattie Gillen’s 13 points. The 7th grade is now (11-0) on the season. The ICS 8th grade is also undefeated on the year at (12-0) after a 33-14 win over ROWVA. Belle Thompson led all scorers with 20 points.

Lombard was swept by Dunlap in 7th and 8th grade girls basketball contests. The Zephyrs lost 41-14 and were led in scoring by Capre Ferguson’s six points. The Lombard 8th grade fell to the Eagles 37-22. The Zephyrs were led in scoring by Kendra Coon’s eight points.
