DeAndre Wright, Monmouth College Football

Monmouth’s DeAndre Wright took the first handoff of the game and scampered 58 yards to set the tone in Monmouth’s 34-0 win on Family Weekend at Monmouth.

Wright’s run was eclipsed by quarterback Joshua McKenzie‘s 60-yard TD run on his first carry in the second quarter. In between, Joey Biel nailed a 27-yard field goal and Wesley Anderson snared a 35-yard pass from Hayden Nelson to a score. Nelson finished with 240 passing yards, hitting Nathan Graham for a 36-yard score to end the first half scoring, giving Monmouth a 31-0 lead at the half.

The Scots’ defense held the Vikings to just 49 total yards while the offense racked up 511 yards, 271 on the ground from six different ball carriers. Led by Clark Gaden‘s 11 tackles, the Scots allowed just five first downs in the game for their second straight shutout. In the last two games Monmouth has given up just 159 yards.

Monmouth opens Midwest Conference South Division play next Saturday in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Grinnell.
