Ferry Pleased with Direction of M-R Music

Kevin Ferry, Choral Director for the Monmouth-Roseville School District, is ecstatic with the direction both the band and choir programs are headed in. Currently, the choir program boasts about 100 participants, while the band program is pushing 70 members. Ferry gave a lot of praise to first-year Band Director Kyle Barshinger for the upward trajectory of the program.

“Those numbers are pretty good. I’ve got to be honest with you; our junior high numbers are real good, and with what Mr. Barshinger is doing, I can see that band program being at 100 in three to four years,” Ferry said.

Ferry cited Barshinger’s energy and enthusiasm for the recent success of the band program. On Sept. 30th, a group of M-R students traveled to Geneseo to audition for the All-District Choir and Band. 27 members of the choir and seven members of the band program were named to the All-District list – the most that Monmouth-Roseville has ever had.

This Sunday, Ferry and the choir program will be holding their Annual Fall Choir Concert at Monmouth-Roseville High School starting at 5 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The concert is free to attend, and Ferry encourages any choral music enthusiasts to come enjoy the show.

“We’ll have junior choir, mixed choir, treble choir, Madrigal singers, and concert choir – a lot of great music. I’m really, really excited. I’m not really nervous, but more excited, and that’s not usual. Usually I’m freaking out about this time, but the kids are doing a great job,” Ferry stated.
