ICS Baseball Takes Second Place at State Tourney

The state runner-up ICS Trojans Jr. High baseball team stopped by the studio on Thursday morning. After a third place finish at state last season, the Trojans took another step forward with a second place finish at the state tournament last weekend, falling to a strong Joliet St. Paul team in the championship, 15-0. Head coach Ross Parcel summed up what this 2017 team was about.

“Guys just stepped up. We weren’t really a group that got too bent out of shape. There were times where we were a little frustrated, but the boys were so loose and had each other’s backs. That’s the true meaning of ICS; it’s family. I think that’s what was so successful for us. The kids all love each other, they go to bat for each other, they have each other’s backs, and I think that’s why we were so successful,” Parcel said.

The Trojans played seven postseason games, winning four of them by just one run. ICS fans can expect continued success next season as the team only started three eighth graders in their nine-man lineup. Coach Parcel also commended the parents and fans of ICS for their continued support throughout this season.

“This embodies ICS. Everyone plays their part, they roll their sleeves up, and they want to be a part of it. And they don’t ask for anything in return. It’s a special place to be,” he said.

Congratulations to the Trojans from everyone here at Prairie Communications on a fantastic season!
