JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire football team dropped a hard-fought game 23-13 to Illinois College on Saturday night.

Knox (4-3, 1-2 MWC) fell behind early as the Blueboys scored just 1:25 into the game. The Prairie Fire responded about halfway through the first quarter when Braeden Westfall found the end zone on a one-yard rush. The extra point attempt failed to give IC a 7-6 edge. The Blueboys scored again less than a minute later, but neither team scored again in the half to put the score at 14-6 going into halftime. IC would hit two field goals to expand their lead to 20-6, but the Prairie Fire scored another touchdown when Matt McCaffrey hit Kobe Shutter with an 11-yard pass to bring the score to 20-13. The Blueboys tacked on another field goal and held on for the victory.

McCaffrey completed 16-of-20 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. He added 67 yards on 12 attempts to lead the rushing attack as well. Westfall added 55 rushing yards and Malik Hamilton caught two passes for 37 yards.

Quinn Sharp picked up 11 total tackles, including three tackles for a loss and a sack, to lead the Prairie Fire. Jordan Anderson added a sack and Mario Whitley and Tyler Paul teamed up for another sack.

Knox will host Cornell on October 28 for homecoming.
