DE PERE, Wisconsin- The Knox College football team was dealt their first loss of the season when they visited St. Norbert College. Knox (3-1) was having difficulty running the ball with only 13 yards rushing, a huge difference maker in the game.
The Green Knights struck first with two touchdowns in the first quarter, but Knox was able to convert late in the first quarter when quarterback Matt McCaffrey scrambled for a 15-yard score. However, the Fire were unable to score again until Jesus Flores hit a field goal in the third quarter. By then, Knox trailed 58-10. Midway through the 4th quarter Hector Lopez hit Malik Hamilton on a 68-yard touchdown pass to complete the Prairie Fire scoring.
Knox was largely able to keep from turning the ball over, with the lone giveaway coming in the third quarter. McCaffrey finished 19-of-31 with 168 yards, adding 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Hamilton caught seven passes for 141 yards and a score. Quinn Sharp led the defense with nine total tackles. Garrett Rau and Evan Economos each picked off a pass.
Knox will look to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Lake Forest College on October 7.
