At the girls class 1A Metamora Sectional at Metamora Fields Golf Course, the United Red Storm had three girls take part, with the Knoxville Blue Bullets having two ladies try to get qualified for the state finals this weekend. None of the five girls advanced but Galva High School junior Elizabeth Whitford’s 84 was enough to move on. For the Red Storm, Paige McKeown led the way with a 98, which was good enough to finish in a tie for 46th place. McKeown teammates, Emily Grodjesk and Erin Glisan shot a 106 and 110 respectively. Knoxville’s Dedra Ratermann carded a 114 and Hollan Wright had a 117. Bloomington Central Catholic, Eureka and Geneseo will advance as teams to the state finals at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur starting on Friday.

In the Class 2A girls Sectionals at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, the Galesburg Silver Streaks were trying to get to the state finals as a team but would finish in 10th place. The Steaks will, however, send two girls to the state finals as junior Kristen Osborn and senior Maitlyn Sanders will move on as individuals. Osborn’s 76 was good enough to place 3rd overall and Sanders’ 83 put her in a tie for 13th. Rylee Chockley’s 91 and Halle Majdich’s 144 rounded out the scoring for Galesburg. O’Fallon was your sectional team champ.

On the boy’s side, the Galesburg Silver Streaks teed off at Champaign’s University of Illinois’ Orange Course in the Champaign Centennial Class 2A Sectional. The Streaks placed 10th as a team and did not advance any individuals in a highly competetive sectional complex. The past three state champion teams all took part in the event. Leading Galesburg was Lucas Watson’s 81, Owen Hawkins’ 84, Justin Endthoff’s 85 and Luke Bradburn’s 93 led the Silver Streak scoring. It took a 77 to advance to the state finals in Normal. Champaign Centennial won the team title with 2016 state champ Normal U-High and 2014 and 2015 state champ Morton also moving on as teams.
