Golf

The IHSA boys and girls golf state finals took place in the Bloomington-Normal and Decatur areas over the weekend. The Galesburg Silver Streaks had a pair of girls golfing at the Class 2A finals at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur. Streak junior Kirsten Osborn shot a 36-hole career best total of 152 to place 19th and senior Maitlyn Sanders shaved five strokes off her score from last year with a 2-day total of 168, good enough for 76th. At Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur at the 1A girls finals, Mid County’s Elizabeth Whitford placed 67th individually with a total of 167 strokes between Friday and Saturday.

At the boys 1A state finals at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, the Ridgewood Spartans placed 5th out of 12 teams with a team total of 678. Individually, Thomas Bumann carded a 2-day total of 158, which was good enough to tie him for 15th. His teammate Levi Swanson shot a 160, placing him 21st. Riley Nelson and Ganon Greenman shot a pair of 180’s as well for Ridgewood.

At the boys 2A state finals at Illinois State University’s Weibring Golf Club, Morton senior Tommy Kuhl made history by putting together a 36-hole total of 129. That was 13 strokes under par and shattered the previous record of 137, set by four different golfers. He started the weekend with the 18-hole record of 63 on Friday and followed it up with a 66 on Saturday.

Volleyball

The United Red Storm took second and the Monmouth-Roseville Titans placed third in the 10-team Shirt Tales Classic Tournament in Sherrard. Both teams ended the day on Saturday with (4-1) records. United went (4-0) in pool play before losing to (31-0) Wethersfield in the finals. The Titans were (3-1) in pool play and then defeated Mendon Unity in the third place game. The Red Storm are now (27-7) overall and the Titans are (26-8). Carly Gillen and Kaylee Woodard from Monmouth-Roseville were placed on the all-tournament team. United had Jerzi Johnson and Baylee McKeown earning an all-tourney nod.

The West Central Heat went (5-0) on Saturday in Bushnell to win the BPC Round-Robin Invitational.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks went (1-4) in the highly competetive Limestone Fall Classic.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg girls swimming and diving team placed 4th of six teams in the Silver Streak Invitational on Saturday. Galesburg’s Lauren Pio was 5th in the 100 yard freestyle. She combined with Haylee Cox, Emma Hallberg and Kaylyn Dane to finish 5th in the 200 yard medly relay.
