Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 17th, 2017

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team is regional champs for the 4th in the 11 year history of the program and the first time since 2014. The Titans broke open a 1-all tie with 2 second half goals to defeat the Alleman Pioneers in the Class 1A Regional Championship game at the Alleman Sports Complex on a chilly Monday night. Chum Ling and Gilberto Vazquez scored early in the second half to add on to Kyaw Thang’s first half tally. Monmouth-Roseville improves to (17-3-3) on the season and will now take on (21-3) the Earlville/Leland/Paw Paw co-op on Wednesday in the Mendota Sectioanal semi-final. The Titans will play the second semi at 6:00 with (19-2-4) Princeton taking on (9-10-2) Peoria Christian in the first match at 4:00.

Volleyball

The undefeated Wethersfield Flying clinched at least a share of the Lincoln Trail Conference title with a 25-11, 25-15 win over the United Red Storm. Both teams came in unbeaten in league play at (8-0). Ashton Chandler and Vada Gregory each had three kills for United. Chandler added seven digs and Gregory totaled six digs. Jordian Cook led the team in digs with nine. Baylee McKeown handed out six assists for the Red Storm. Brittany Litton led the Flying Geese with 13 kills and two blocks. Wethersfield is now (9-0) in the LTC and (32-0) overall, dropping only one set all year. The Red Storm are (8-1) in the conference and (27-8) overall.

Elsewhere in the LTC, Princeville over the West Central Heat, 25-15, 25-18. Danyel McKune smashed three kills and had three blocks for West Central. Tori Olson dished out three assists for the Heat and Corinne Booton hustled her way to seven digs.

Ridgewood fell to Annawan, 25-11, 25-20…..ROWVA lost to Stark County, 25-23, 25-13 and it was Williamsfield over Galva in three sets.

In the Prairieland Conference, West Prairie defeated Rushville/Industry 25-19, 25-21 and it was Brimfield beating North Fulton 25-13, 25-18.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans lost to Sherrard. Leading Monmouth-Roseville was Addi Switzer with 12 points. The 8th grade Titans lost 41-12 to the Tigers in the nightcap. The leading scorer for Monmouth-Roseville was Cristina Dilley with 5 pts.

The Lombard Zephyrs swept Kewanee Wethersfield in a pair of games at Phil Erickson Gymnasium in Galesburg. The7th grade Zephyrs won 26-21. Leading Lombard was Capre Ferguson with 12 points. Lombard also won the 8th grade game by the score of 31-14. It was the Zephyr’s Abby Endthoff’s 20 points leading all scorers in the game.
