Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 19th, 2017

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team will play for a sectional championship on Friday night in Mendota after beating Earlville/Leland/Paw Paw 5-2 last night in the Class 1A Mendota High School sectional semi-finals. Grego Massengo led the Titans with two goals on the night. Chum Ling wasted no time getting Monmouth-Roseville out to a quick lead, scoring in the first minute of the match. The Titans led 3-0 at the half but Mendota would cut the lead to 4-2 late in the second half before Massengo’s second goal of the night, put the game away with four minutes to play. The (18-3-3) Titans will now meet the other top seed in the sub-sectional, (20-2-4) Princeton tomorrow night at 6:00 for a chance to play in Tuesday’s Super Sectional. Princeton defeated Peoria Christian 3-1 in the first semi-final last night.

Volleyball

The Lewistown Indian volleyball team wrapped up an outright Prairieland Conference championship last night with a 25-20, 25-15 home win over Knoxville. The Lady Indians are now (26-6) overall and finish their conference schedule with a perfect (12-0) record, which included a win over the defending class 1A champs, West Prairie, last week. West Prairie ends their league slate with an (11-1) record. The Blue Bullets fall to (21-11-1) overall and (7-5) in the Prairieland. The A-Town Tornadoes end their regular season with a match at Farmington later this evening.

In Lincoln Trail Conference volleyball matches last night, Williamsfield lost to Mercer County 25-17, 26-24. Alivia Alford led Williamsfield with six kills. Also for the Bombers, Gionna Ott dished out 13 assists and Lexi Little totaled 11 digs.

Ridgewood lost their final LTC match to Stark County in three sets. Annie Althaus filled up the stat sheet for Ridgewood with 11 kills and eight blocks. Jenna Stromquist served six aces and had 13 digs and Alli Lambin handed out 24 assists for the Spartans.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th grade beat Rockridge in their home conference opener. Mariah Reading lead the Titans in scoring with 8 points followed by Addi Switzer with 7. Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade lost against Rockridge 42-23. Leading scorers for the Titans were Cristina Dilley with 6 pts and Jayda Brown-Dodd and Carlee Wooddell with 5.

The Churchill Junior High seventh grade girls basketball team beat Lombard 45-19 at Thiel Gym last night in the annual cross-town classic. The Blue Streaks were led by Hannah Dillbeck with 11 points and Juniper Schwartzman with eight. Churchill also won the 8th grade game 34-31. Churchill was led in scoring by Abby Davidson with 13 points.

Pedestrian Struck by Train

On March 21, 2024 at approximately 9:56 PM, Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Officers from the Galesburg Police Department responded to a call of a pedestrian that
