Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 23rd, 2017

Cross Country

IHSA Cross Country Regionals were held around the state of Illinois on Saturday. Many of our local teams were either in Aledo at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course, while many of our remaining schools were in Rock Falls. In the Mercer County Class 1A meet in Aledo, the Monmouth-Roseville Titan and Knoxville Blue Bullet boys and girls teams advanced on to the Sectionals in Elmwood this coming Saturday. The Titan girls placed 4th as a team and were paced by Arika Hofmann’s 7th place finish. Knoxville, who placed 7th, was led by Olivia Hall’s 26th place finish. Another area individual qualifier included A-Town’s Natalie Kern, who’s 17th place finish was enough to move on to Elmwood. On the boy’s side, Monmouth-Roseville was 5th as a team. Like the Blue Bullet girls, the boys were 7th. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Riley Dulin in 4th and Carlos Serratos in 12th. Knoxville was led by Christian Hensley’s 17th place. Also qualifying from our area included A-Town’s Andrew Powell in 15th and West Central’s Freeman Shoemaker in 10th.

In the Class 1A Rock Falls Regionals, the Mid-County boy’s team wiill move on and the Ridgewood girls will go to Elmwood as well. Mid-County’s Lorin Peterson and Caelin Foley’s 7th and 15th places respectively paced the Cougars. Ridgewood’s Jordan Francis placed 12th and he will participate in the sectional meet as an individual. On the girl’s side, Carlie Barman led Ridgewood, crossing the finish line in 31st.

In the Class 2A meet at Donovan Park in Peoria, the Galesburg Silver Streak boys and girls will move on to Normal’s Maxwell Park on Saturday. Leading the Streak boys was John Peterson in 12th and Aaron Burrows in 24th. For the Silver Streak girls, Kaitlyn Pendergast was 7th and Lexi Herr was 8th.

Soccer

The (19-3-3) Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team’s exhilirating 2-1 overtime win over Princeton advances them on to the Peoria Christian Super Sectional against (21-2-2) Urbana (University). The match will be played tomorrow night at the Eastside Center in East Peoria at 7:00.

Volleyball

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team ended its regular season schedule on Saturday with a pair of Western Big Six Conference matches at Wharton Fieldhouse in Moline. The Streaks split on the day with a loss to eventual conference co-champ Moline, 25-15, 25-11 before defeating United Township 25-14, 25-18. Yvonne Mixon led the Streaks with 14 kills and three blocks on the day. Megan Lingafelter had 13 assists in the win over Panthers and Lauryn Campbell totaled nine digs between the two matches. The Streaks head into the Class 3A Monmouth-Roseville with an overall record of (14-16) and will play Richwoods at 6:30 tomorrow night at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The host Titans will play Macomb tonight with the winner moving on to play Peoria Notre Dame tomorrow night as well.
