Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer program had already reached heights it had never achieved with an appearance in the super sectionals last night in East Peoria. Now they have stretched those boundaries even further as they will play in the state finals this weekend. Monmouth-Roseville defeated Urbana U-High 5-2 in the supers at the Eastside Center. The Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Grego Massengo goal with only six minutes gone off the game clock. Urbana would tie things up eight minutes later but four unanswered goals by the Titans to end the first half gave Monmouth-Roseville all the cushion they would need to cruise to their 20th win of the season and the 149th of head coach Aaron Sikorski’s 11 year coaching career. Massengo would score the Titans final goal of the night for his second of the match. Also scoring goals for Monmouth-Roseville was Gilberto Vazquez, Alan Ayala and Robert Lian. The Titans are now (20-3-3) and will play in the state semi-finals at 7:00 on Friday night against (26-1) Elgin St. Edward, who defeated Chicago F.W. Parker 2-1 last night. All state final matches will be played at the Eastside Center in East Peoria.
