Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team took on Alton Marquette on Saturday night for the Class 1A state championship. The Titans would fall 4-3 in overtime. Three of the four Marquette goals were by direct kicks following fouls or penalties, including the game-winner with just over a minute to play. A very controversial penalty on the Monmouth-Roseville goal keeper led to a shot by Kwame Nowa that hit the back of net and sent his team to the title. In back and forth match that neither team led by more than one goal, the Titans got goals from Grego Massengo, Kyaw Thang and Robert Lian. Monmouth-Roseville finishes the season with a program record for wins at (21-4-3). Alton Marquette ends the season at (17-6-3). Congratulations on a great season from all of us here at Prairie Radio Sports to head coach, Aaron Sikorski, assistant coach Barry McNamara and all of the Titan players.

Cross Country

IHSA Cross Country Sectional meets were held on Saturday. In the Class 1A meet at Maple Lane Country Club in Elmwood, the Monmouth-Roseville Titan and Knoxville Blue Bullet boys and girls competed as teams, along with various individuals from other listening area schools. The Titan boys placed 11th as a team, with the Blue Bullet boys 18th. Neither team scored enough to advance as a team but Monmouth-Roseville senior Riley Dulin will run at the state finals in East Peoria on Saturday as he crossed the finish line in 13th place. He was one of the top-seven individual runners not on an advancing team. Leading Knoxville was Christian Hensley with an 85th place finish. Other finishers from our area schools included West Central’s Freeman Shoemaker, who placed 35th and A-Town’s Andrew Powell who placed 80th. The Monmouth-Roseville girls placed 17th and were paced by Arika Hofmann’s 34th place. Knoxville was 21st as a team and were led by Olivia Hall’s 82nd place.

In Class 2A, the Galesburg Silver Streak boys and girls ran at the Normal Community Sectional at Maxwell Park in Normal. Neither team advanced to the finals in East Peoria but did have some great individual finishes. The girls were led by Lexi Herr in 24th and Kaitlyn Pendergast in 25th. Both girls were just 8 seconds from advancing as individuals. On the boy’s side, John Peterson was 75th and Aaron Burrows was 81st for the Streaks.
