The most intriguing matchup in Class 1A that was the closest venue in our listening area was held in Brimfield. The defending 1A state champion West Prairie Cyclones took on the undefeated Wethersfield Flying Geese in the first semi at Brimfield High School. The Cyclones knocked the Flying Geese out of the playoffs last season in the Super Sectionals on their way to the state title. Coming into last night’s match, the Flying Geese had only lost one set all season in going (35-0) and they would capture the first set against the Cyclones 25-20. But it’s hard to beat the heart of a champion as West Prairie would win the final two sets 25-18, 25-16 to move on to tomorrow night’s sectional championship. The Cyclones were led by uber-talented Peyton Bowman’s 20 kills and nine digs. Wethersfield was led by Brittany Litton’s 16 kills and nine digs. Tess Anderson dished out 31 assists for the Flying Geese as well. West Prairie is now (28-10) and will play top-seeded and (32-6) Hartsburg-Emden at 6:00 tomorrow night. Hart-Em was an easy 25-13, 25-10 winner over LaMoille/Ohio.

Moving on to the Class 2A Farmington Sectional, the host Farmers fell to Eureka 25-21, 25-17. (29-7) Eureka will face off with (29-6-1) Deer Creek-Mackinaw, who were 25-8, 25-22 victors over Illini West.

Staying in Class 2A, the Orion Chargers will play for a sectional championship. The Chargers defeated Oregon on Oregon’s home floor 25-21, 25-23. Sarah Jacobsen led the (32-5) Chargers with 12 kills and 11 digs. Orion will matchup with (33-5) Galena tomorrow night at Oregon High School. The Pirates beat Riverdale 25-8, 25-20.

In the Class 3A Galesburg Sectional at John Thiel Gymnasium, it will be (33-3-1) LaSalle-Peru battling (32-3) Limestone tomorrow night at 6:00. LaSalle-Peru beat Peoria Notre Dame 25-19, 27-25. Limestone defeated Sterling 25-21, 25-15.
