Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 3rd, 2017

Volleyball

The United Red Storm kept pace with the Wethersfield Flying Geese in the Lincoln Trail Conference with a 25-7, 25-8 victory over ROWVA at United High School. Jerzi Johnson had five kills to lead the Red Storm offense. Baylee McKeown handed out 13 assists. United and Wethersfield are scheduled to play in Kewanee on October 16th.

The West Central heat defeated Galva 25-20, 25-23 in Biggsville. Corrine Booton filled up the stat sheet once again, hammering eight kills, getting four blocks and hustling her way 11 digs. Lacey Bigger dished out ten assists and led in digs with 12. The Heat are now (2-4) in the Lincoln Trail.

Princeville is a half game back of Wethersfield and United at (5-1) after getting a 25-22, 15-25, 25-15 win over Mercer County.

Williamsfield also won in three sets over Ridgewood. Alivia Alford had nine kills and three blocks for Williamsfield and Gionna Ott totaled 17 assists for Williamsfield. Ridgewood was led by Mackenzie Coziahr’s six kills and 20 digs. Alli Lambin pitched in with eight assists.

In the Prairieland Conference, A-Town lost to Brimfield, in Abingdon, 25-13, 16-25, 25-21 to fall to (3-5) in conference play. Payton Florine had 13 kills to lead A-Town. Courtney Moore handed out 12 assists and Charli Johnson had nine digs.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets improved to (5-3) in the Prairieland with a 25-15, 25-8 victory over North Fulton. Shelby Shreeves dished out nine assists and had eight digs for the Blue Bullets. Emily Lenz and Alis Bickel each had four kills for Knoxville.

Lewistown beat Farmington 25-17, 25-12. Lewistown is (7-0) in the Prairieland Conference, trailing only (8-0) West Prairie.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball, the Churchill Blue Streaks split a pair of games against the A-Town Tornadoes in Galesburg. A-Town won the 7th grade game 28-22. Cayman Milroy led Churchill in points with 11. The Churchill 8th grade earned the split with a 29-21 win. Abby Davidson led the Blue Streak offense with 11 points.
