Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 4th, 2017

Golf

The Rockridge Rocket boys golf team won the Kewanee Wethersfield Class 1A regional played at Kewanee Dunes. They shot a team total of 344. Ridgewood was second, one stroke back at 345 and Sherrard was third at 351. Those three teams will move on to the Havana Sectional at Crane Creek Golf Course. Ridgewood’s Thomas Bumann was the meet medalist, shooting a 78. That was one shot better than Monmouth-Roseville’s Nick Corman. Corman will move on to Sectional play and will be joined by Titan teammates, JC Sells and Reese Kane. Sells and Kane both carded 89’s, good enough to finish in the top-10 individuals that were not on an advancing team. Knoxville’s Logan Thompson will also move on, shooting an 88. United placed 10th as a team and were led by Evan Wynne’s 95. Nathan Wetzel carded a round of 102 to lead West Central.

At the Class 2A Regional at the Macomb Country Club, the Galesburg Silver Streak boys placed second as a team and will move on to the sectionals at the Champaign Sectional at the U of I Orange Course. The Streaks were one shot behind team champ, Macomb and four strokes ahead of 3rd place Peoria Notre Dame. Galesburg’s Owen Hawkins was the individual champ, shooting a round of 74. His teammates, Justin Endthoff was fourth with a 77 and Lucas Watson also placed in the top-10 with a 79.

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville volleyball team moved into sole possession of first place in the West Central Conference’s North Division with a 25-22, 19-25, 25-20 win over Illini West on Volley For Willy Night at Monmouth-Roseville High School. Carly Gillen led the Titans with 14 kills and 13 digs. Delaney Woodard handed out 19 assists and Mackenzie Connell and Camryn Jones led in points with nine apiece. Monmouth-Roseville gets their 20th win against seven losses and are now (5-1) in the North Division. Illini West falls to (4-2). Macomb is a half game behind at (4-1). Monmouth-Roseville hosts Macomb next Tuesday night.

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team fell to Quincy 25-14, 25-15 in Western Big Six Conference play to fall to (11-9) on the season and (3-3) in league play. The Streaks were led by Hannah Huppenbauer’s four kills and six blocks. Megan Lingafelter handed out six assists and Emily Meinert led in digs with three.

Also in the area, A-Town beats Havana in three sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22.

West Prairie defeats Knoxville on Pink Out Night in Knoxville, 25-14, 25-14 to go to (9-0) in the Prairieland Conference.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team is now (14-3-3) on the season after beating the Orion/Sherrard coop 4-0. Scoring goals for Monmouth-Roseville was Gilberto Vazquez , Chum Ling, Robert Lian and Kyaw Thang. The Titans will host Pekin tomorrow night in Roseville to end the regular season and it will be senior night as well.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team beat Alleman at Van Dyke Field 3-2 in overtime. The match was tied at 1-all after regulation but the Streaks get goals from Caden Wilson and Chris Mboyo in the extra session to get the victory.

Tennis

The Silver Streak girls tennis team loses to Moline 5-4. Getting singles wins for the Streaks was Taylor Hostens at #3, Regan Mudd at #4 and Tiara Pendleton at #5. Pendleton teamed up with Kennedi Davis for a win at #3 doubles.

Junior High

In local junior high girls basketball, ICS swept Monmouth-Roseville with the 7th grade winning 41-20 and the 8th grade defeating the Titans 38-24. Leading scorers in the 7th game for ICS was Mattie Gillen with 17 points. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Addison Switzer with eight points. Belle Thompson led the ICS 8th grade with 15 and Vivi Serna and Jayda Brown-Dodd led Monmouth-Roseville’s 8th grade team with six points apiece.

The Lombard Zephyr 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams split a pair of games against Stark County. The Zephyr 7th grade lost 31-30 to the Rebels. Leading Lombard in scoring was Julissa Jones with 12 points. Caprie Ferguson was also in double figures with 10. The Zephry 8th grade earned the split with a 43-20 victory. Leading the Lombard offense was Mariella Snell and Abby Endthoff with 11 points apiece.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade football teams dropped both games against Rockridge last night in Roseville. The Titan 7th grade fell 24-0. Monmouth-Roseville falls to (1-4) overall and (0-4) in the Prairieland Conference. The Titans lost to the Rockets 22-8 in the 8th grade contest. Monmouth-Roseville tied the game at 8-all in the 2nd quarter on a Charlie Fletcher to Zemi Ismali. The Rockets would score the final two touchdowns via the trick play and the Titans fall to (3-2) overall and (3-1) in the Prairieland.

The Galesburg 7th grade football team beats Moline Wilson 32-12 at Lombard Field in Galesburg. Joseph Moren led the Galesburg offense, rushing for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Mike Eiker had three pass receptions for 76 yards and a score. Galesburg is now (5-1) in the Heartland Football Conference and are currently in a 3-way tie with Moline Wilson and East Moline Glenview for first place.

The Galesburg junior high boys cross country team won a 3-team meet yesterday in Farmington. The Streaks were led by Luca Gomez in second place individually. Andrew Peterson and Max Martinez were 4th and 5th respectively. The Galesburg girls placed third, led by Briana Admire’s 4th and Natasha Nickas’ 4th and 6th place finish respectively.
