Golf

More postseason golf around the state of Illinois yesterday. It was the girls turn this time. Closest to home, the United Red Storm hosted a Class 1A Regional at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The Red Storm placed fourth as a team with a score of 440 strokes. That was just two strokes from qualifying for the Metamora Sectional at Metamora Fields Golf Club. Sherrard won the team title with a score of 408. They were followed by Rockridge’s 419 and Mercer County’s 438. Though not advancing as a team, United will have three golfers moving on as individuals. Erin Glisan shot a 104, with Emily Grodjesk and Paige McKeown carding a pair of 108’s. Those totals were good enough to be among the top-10 individual golfers not on a qualifying team. Hollan Wright and Dedra Ratermann from Knoxville will also golf in the sectionals as their scores of 107 and 108 were good enough to advance as well. The Blue Bullets were 6th as a team, shooting a team total of 454.

In the Class 2A Regional at Moline’s Oakwood Country Club, the Galesburg Silver Streak’s team total of 355 placed them second and the Streaks will move on to the Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Sectional played at Panther Creek Country Club. The Streaks were led by Kirsten Osborn’s 77, Rylee Chockley’s 80 and Maitlyn Sanders’ 82. They placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively overall individually. They were joined by Halle Majdich’s 116 to round out the scoring. Quincy won the team title with a 351.

Volleyball

The United Red Storm and Wethersfield Flying Geese both moved to (6-0) in Lincoln Trail Conference play. The Red Storm defeated the West Central Heat in straight sets, 25-13, 25-16. Vada Gregory led United with nine kills and a block. Baylee McKeown handed out 21 assists and Jordian Cook hustled her way to 18 digs. For the Heat, Danyel McKune had four kills and four blocks. Tori Olson dished out four assists.

The Flying Geese beat ROWVA 25-3, 25-6.

The Ridgewood Spartans fell to Princeville, 25-18, 25-23. Alli Lambin led the Spartans with 11 digs and 10 assists.

It was Stark County over Galva in three sets, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls swimming and diving team dropped a close 100-85 decision to Metamora at Mustain Pool on the GHS campus. Getting wins for the Streaks included Ari Bailey in the 1 meter dive event. Haylee Cox was first in the 100 butterfly and Hailey Glasnovich touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle. The Silver Streak 200 medley relay team of Cox, Glasnovich, Lauren Pio and Sophie Lotz won their race as well.
