Monmouth totaled more than 500 yards and held previously unbeaten Lake Forest to just 168 yards in a 42-7 road win to take command of the Midwest Conference South Division with one regular season game remaining.

Hayden Nelson hit Jacolby Maxwell for two first half TDS – one a 23-yard pass play and the other a three yard TD toss – as Monmouth inched ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter. DeAndre Wright scored his first of three rushing TDs on the day with an 18-yard run which capped a seven-play, 66-yard drive with less than three minutes remaining in the first half to put the Scots ahead 21-0.

After Josh Talley added Monmouth’s final score to put the Scots up 42-0 with 5:46 left in the fourth quarter, the Foresters got on the boards for their only points in the game as Monmouth allowed a mere 58 yards passing and 110 rushing. Wright finished the game with 161 yards rushing and another 27 receiving. Maxwell hauled in six passes for a game-high 70 yards.

Micam Smith and Lamar Watson led the Scots’ defense with seven tackles each as Lake Forest began all but two drives on their side of the field.

Monmouth will host Knox for the Scots Homecoming on Nov. 4 with a special kickoff time set for 2 p.m.
