On Senior Day Monmouth gave their veterans the gift they had been searching for, a return to the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament. The Scots punched their ticket with a 7-1 win over Lawrence Saturday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

Heading into the wind, Makayla Shaw netted the Scots’ first goal less than two minutes into the game. Shaw then assisted with Kara-Jade Gordon to feed Devin Cross for what turned out to be the eventual game-winner in the 19th minute. Monmouth fired off 18 first half shots and held a 3-0 lead at the intermission on senior Alex Izquierdo‘s goal.

Cross added another goal in the second half and Gordon netted two as six different Scots scored.

Monmouth – now third in the league standings – returns to the MWC Tournament after back-to-back appearances in 2012 and 2013. The Scots wrap up the regular season next Saturday at Grinnell. The Pioneers sit one win behind the Scots in the league standings.
