Belted Cow Looking to Expand Their Reach
Those with a sweet tooth may want to head toward Oquawka soon. The Belted Cow Orchard opened up their business on Oct. 1st. Marci Meyer welcomes anyone that enjoys a great donut or pie to stop by her family’s new business to see what they’re all about.
“We are 8 1/2 miles west of Monmouth, between Monmouth and Oquawka on Highway 164. You can see us from the road. There’s a little sign that says The Belted Cow, and then if you look past that, there’s a barn that has a huge sign that says The Belted Cow. Our barn – what we’re located in, our store – looks like a barn, and it is belted. It’s black with a white stripe. If you’re looking, you can’t miss it,” she said.
From apples, to donuts, to lattes, to cider – The Belted Cow possesses a wide variety of goods that food enthusiasts will love. The Orchard currently has about 1,200 trees, but Meyer says that number is only going to rise in the coming years.
“1,200 trees sounds like a lot, but when you look at it out there, it doesn’t look like 1,200. We’re hoping to maybe get up to maybe 15,000,” Meyer said.
The Orchard is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To learn more about this young business, log on to their Facebook page, or call 309-371-4656.
