Monmouth’s championship season came to a halt on a rainy Saturday afternoon in northeastern Indiana when Trine’s offense erupted in the second half to defeat the Scots 63-24.

The Thunder scored on a pick-six in the game’s first three minutes before lighting suspended the game for the next hour. Once play resumed, the Scots scored on back-to-back drives getting on the board with a Joey Biel 30-yard field goal and then taking the lead when Hayden Nelson hit Jacolby Maxwell for a three-yard scoring strike.

The teams traded scores for the remainder of the first half as Wright answered a Trine 87-yard TD run with a three-yard score to put the Scots ahead 15-14. His 76-yard TD run midway through the second quarter – Monmouth’s last score of the game gave the Scots a 24-21 lead before Trine busted off a 31-yard TD run to take a 28-24 lead at the break.
